Number migration or registration failed

Registration or migration can fail for a few predictable reasons. Work through these before retrying.

Common causes

The number is still attached to another provider, so Meta will not move it. The two-factor PIN is wrong or unknown. The number is still on the WhatsApp app, so it cannot register fresh. Or the OTP step did not complete.

Fix it

If migrating, release the number at the current provider first.

If the number is on the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app, delete that account and wait two hours before registering.

If you do not know the 2FA PIN, reset it from Meta's WhatsApp Manager, then retry.

Re-run registration and complete the OTP verification by call or text.
The two-hour rule

After deleting a number from the WhatsApp app, wait a full two hours before registering it on the API, or registration will fail.
